Development projects in Tanahun receive permission to use 718.58 hectares of forest land

Tanahun, October 29, 2026 — Development projects operating or under construction in Tanahun have received permission to use a total of 718.58 hectares of forest land for hydropower plants, electricity transmission lines, a cable car, a resort and other infrastructure projects, according to the Division Forest Office.

Division Forest Office chief Manoj Ranabhat said forest land had been allocated to several development projects across the district. Major users include the Tanahun Hydropower Project, a 400 kV electricity transmission line, the Tanahun Hydropower 220 kV transmission line and other transmission line projects.

Projects permitted to use forest land must pay applicable fees and revenue, provide replacement land and carry out compensatory tree planting in accordance with prevailing rules and conditions. Requirements and progress vary by project. Some have provided replacement land and are undertaking plantation work, while others pay annual lease fees or royalties. Tree marking and felling are also underway at some project sites, Ranabhat said.

The Tanahun Hydropower Project has received permission to use 417.34 hectares of forest land, the largest allocation among development projects in the district.

The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-Nepal) has been permitted to use 142.66 hectares for a 400 kV transmission line project. The Tanahun Hydropower 220 kV transmission line project has received permission to use 92.73 hectares.
