Kathmandu, October 27, 2026 — Aryan Rai, chief whip of the Shram Sanskriti Party, has accused the current government of focusing more on publicity than on delivering tangible results.
Speaking at a programme in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Rai assessed the government’s performance over the past six to seven months and said its work should be judged by actual achievements rather than social media engagement and algorithms.
Rai also raised concerns about Nepal’s relations with neighbouring countries and national sovereignty. He said it was unfortunate if a political party had to bow to a neighbouring country to establish itself. Nepal, he argued, should maintain balanced and cordial relations with all nations in line with the principles of Panchsheel and the teachings of Buddha, while ensuring that friendly relations do not come at the cost of national sovereignty.
Expressing dissatisfaction with remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on border disputes and statements by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, Rai said he would raise the matter in Parliament. He stressed that the ruling and opposition parties should not be divided on border-related issues and that standing up for national interests does not mean opposing another country.
“The government is chasing stunts rather than results. Social media and algorithms are not the standards for evaluating the government’s work. I humbly urge the current government to focus on delivering results,” Rai said.
Shram Sanskriti Party lawmaker Dhruvraj Rai’s brief remark during Thursday’s parliamentary meeting drew laughter from the Speaker and lawmakers.

Rai further expressed concern over the use of social media algorithms and cyber groups to damage the reputations of people who express differing opinions. He urged young people to remain alert to issues concerning Nepal’s sovereignty and national interests and not to become blind supporters of any political party.
He emphasized that citizens should rise above partisan loyalties and act conscientiously when national interests and sovereignty are at stake.
