Death toll from Bhote Koshi and Trishuli floods rises to 95

Rasuwa, August 26, 2026 — The death toll from the devastating floods along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors has risen to 95, with dozens of people still missing after a massive flash flood swept through Rasuwa and neighbouring districts on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, 95 bodies have so far been recovered from flood-affected areas. Authorities have yet to complete the identification of all the deceased.

The disaster has also left 85 security personnel missing, including 44 members of the Nepali Army, 28 from Nepal Police and 13 from the Armed Police Force.

Search and rescue teams have been mobilised across the affected areas to locate those missing and recover additional victims.

The Prime Minister’s Office said 60 people associated with various hydropower projects have also gone out of contact following the flood.

The disaster has severely affected tourists and travellers in the region. A total of 391 foreign tourists and 93 Nepali tourists are currently reported to be out of contact.

The floods have also caused extensive damage to transport infrastructure, with 19 motorable bridges destroyed or damaged and around 40 kilometres of road affected.

The scale of the disaster has disrupted communication and access to several affected areas, making search, rescue and damage assessment difficult. Security agencies and other government bodies continue to work across the affected districts as authorities attempt to establish the whereabouts of those still missing and assess the full extent of the losses.
