Rasuwa, August 26, 2026 — More than 60 employees, including engineers working on the under-construction 20-megawatt Langtang Khola Hydropower Project in Syabrubesi, Rasuwa, have gone out of contact following the sudden flooding of the Bhote Koshi River.
Bijay Mohan Bhattarai, managing director of the Langtang Hydropower Project and secretary of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), has urged the government to immediately intensify search and rescue efforts for the missing workers.
According to Bhattarai, more than 60 employees were working on concrete lining inside the project’s tunnel when the sudden flood struck.
He said the flood caused extensive damage to the project’s infrastructure, including the tunnel, which is located about 10 metres above the river level.
“The flood has caused severe damage to the hydropower project’s structure,” Bhattarai said, calling on authorities to step up efforts to locate the workers who remain out of contact.
