Police make public two arrested in three-year-old Garima Chaudhary’s murder case

Police have made public two individuals arrested on the charge of murdering three-year-old Garima Chaudhary. The arrested persons are 16-year-old Suman Thapa and 24-year-old Progesh Chaudhary. Police said they were taken into custody and presented publicly in connection with the case. According to the preliminary investigation by police, the girl was raped and then murdered.

Police bullets killed three people in Kaptanganj clash, government probe finds

A government investigation has concluded that bullets fired by security personnel killed three people during a violent clash in Kaptanganj of Sunsari, ruling out the possibility that the victims were shot by an outside group or infiltrators. A probe committee led by Bhupendra Thapa, joint secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, submitted its report to the ministry on Tuesday after investigating the incident and interviewing people involved.

Three-year-old girl found dead in vacant house in Bara after three-day

Three-year-old Garima Chaudhary, who had been missing for three days from Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1 in Bara, was found dead inside an unoccupied house in Bhakti Tole on Tuesday evening. Garima, the daughter of Manoj Chaudhary and Manmati Chaudhary, had been missing since around 8:30 am. Sunday. Her family and police had been searching for her after she disappeared from the settlement. The house where her body was found had reportedly been vacant for about five months and was located roughly 150 metres south of Garima’s home.

One girl dead, two missing after four school students swept away by river in Makawanpur

One schoolgirl has died and two others remain missing after four students returning home from school were swept away by the Basudev River in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-19, Makawanpur, on Tuesday. The four students were from Nirmal Secondary School in Bastipur. According to school principal Prabodh Bidari, they were crossing the Basudev River at Basudev while returning home along the route from their school when they were swept away by the river. Bidari informed police about the incident.

Government forms task force to study reopening of Birgunj Sugar Mill after 27 years

The government has formed a task force to examine the possibility of reopening the Birgunj Sugar Mill, which has remained shut for nearly 27 years. The task force has been formed under the coordination of Shrikant Yadav, chief divisional engineer at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies. The formation follows a Cabinet decision directing the government to assess the condition of the defunct factory and examine previous decisions, studies and reports concerning its potential revival. The task force will also recommend the measures that would need to be taken to move the process forward.

Prachanda warns Deuba against making statements contrary to the constitution

Nepali Communist Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has warned former prime minister and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba against making statements or taking positions that contradict Nepal’s Constitution. Speaking at the unification meeting of the party’s Bagmati Province Committee on Tuesday, Prachanda criticised Deuba’s recent declaration that he is a Hindu and objected to decisions adopted at a gathering of the faction opposed to the Nepali Congress mainstream. According to party leader Himal Sharma, Prachanda also referred to the five-point decisions adopted by the gathering and warned against actions and statements that could go against the constitutional framework.

Indian Army Chief Dhiraj Seth meets PM Balen in Kathmandu

Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister and Defence Minister Balendra Shah at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Tuesday. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava also attended the meeting. Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday for a four-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel. Woman dies after jeep plunges into ravine in Makwanpur

A 49-year-old woman who was critically injured when a jeep plunged into a roadside ravine in Bhimphedi, Makwanpur, on Tuesday morning has died during treatment in Kathmandu. Laxmi Badu, who was seriously injured in the accident, died at Shree Birendra Hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu. Her body has been kept at the hospital, according to police. The accident occurred at around 7 am when a jeep travelling from Kathmandu towards Birgunj lost control and fell approximately 50 to 60 metres into a ravine beside the road. The vehicle was registered as Province 3-01-002 Jha 5183.

Speaker orders PM Balendra Shah to attend Parliament and answer lawmakers

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has been directed to attend the House of Representatives and answer lawmakers’ questions after repeatedly failing to appear for the monthly question-and-answer session required by parliamentary rules. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal issued the ruling on Monday, saying lawmakers had repeatedly raised concerns over the prime minister’s absence and that the matter had come to his attention. “Members of parliament have been raising this issue for a long time, and it has come to my attention,” Aryal said before directing Shah to attend the House and respond to questions in accordance with the House of Representatives Regulations, 2026.

High Court judge Gokarna Dangi among six injured in Makwanpur Scorpio accident

Six people, including Judge Gokarna Dangi of the Birgunj temporary bench of the High Court Janakpur, were injured after a Scorpio vehicle travelling from Kathmandu to Birgunj plunged about 50–60 metres off the road in Makwanpur on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at Jurikhel in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6. The Scorpio, bearing registration number Province 3-01-002 Jha 5183, was travelling towards Birgunj when it fell below the road and crashed.
