Rasuwa, August 26, 2026 — A sudden and massive flood entered the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibetan side on Wednesday morning, causing extensive damage in northern Rasuwa and prompting authorities to place downstream areas along the Trishuli River on high alert.
The flood entered the Bhote Koshi at around 9:00 am., with the surge subsequently moving downstream toward the Trishuli River and Nuwakot. Nepal’s Flood Forecasting Division urged residents and authorities in riverside areas downstream to remain on high alert up to Mugling.
Preliminary reports indicate that Timure and Syabrubesi were among the areas seriously affected. Floodwaters damaged settlements and infrastructure, while the Timure customs area also suffered major losses. The extent of the damage and any casualties were still being assessed as of Wednesday morning.
Authorities in Dhading have warned communities along the Trishuli River that the flood could affect downstream areas in Nuwakot and Dhading. Security personnel have been deployed and preparations for possible rescue operations are under way.
The precise cause and origin of the sudden flood have not yet been conclusively established. Initial information indicates that floodwaters came from the Tibetan side, while authorities are assessing the situation and coordinating to determine the source. Reports suggesting a glacial lake outburst flood should therefore be treated as preliminary until confirmed by the relevant authorities.
