Rasuwa, August 26, 2026 — Nearly 400 pilgrims travelling to Tibet, China, for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra have gone out of contact in Rasuwagadhi after a flash flood swept through settlements and damaged roads and critical infrastructure along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa.
Bashu Kumar Adhikari, managing director of Kathmandu-based Touch Kailash Travels & Tours, said 390 pilgrims, including 93 Nepali nationals, were scheduled to cross the border on Wednesday.
“Except for a few, we have not been able to establish contact with the pilgrims as of 3 pm,” Adhikari said.
The pilgrims were travelling through different travel agencies. Their preliminary agency-wise numbers include 71 clients of Samrat Tours and Travels, 55 of Leaf Holidays, 17 of Kathmandu Holidays, 31 of Kailash Journey, seven of Explore Vacation, 92 of Trekkers Society, 12 of Richa Tours, 27 of Fishtail Tour and Travels, 62 of Himalayan Glacier and 16 of Alpine Eco Trek.
Sagar Pandey, president of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal, said efforts were underway to establish contact with the pilgrims and determine their condition.
