Chitwan, October 29, 2026 — Chitwan National Park received 20,087 visitors during the Dashain festival period, generating Rs 17.34 million in revenue after jeep safaris inside the park resumed on Asoj 23.
According to park information officer Ganesh Tiwari, the visitors included 11,891 Nepali nationals, 7,365 tourists from countries outside Nepal and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and 831 visitors from SAARC member countries.
Tourists visit the park to see its diverse wildlife, including the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, elephants, bears and gharial crocodiles, as well as various bird species. The sighting of a rare Bengal tiger during this period has further increased interest in park safaris.
The park collected Rs 17,344,650 in revenue from visitors during Dashain, Tiwari said. Nepali visitors contributed Rs 1,783,650, tourists from SAARC countries contributed Rs 831,000, and visitors from other countries generated Rs 14,730,000.
Jeep safaris inside the park are suspended during the monsoon season, but jeep and elephant safaris continue in the buffer zone and community forests.
Jeep safaris enter the park from five locations. A total of 32 jeeps operate from Sauraha, 22 from Kasara, 11 from Meghauli, eight from Amaltari and one from Madi. Visitors use these vehicles to explore the park and observe wildlife.
Flights have resumed at Gulmi’s Resunga Airport after around four months, with Nepal Airlines Corporation scheduling services three times a week and setting fares for both routes.
