Unidentified body found in sack in Sunsari identified as 65-year-old Indian national

Sunsari, October 25, 2026 — The man whose body was found inside a sack near the Keshaliya River in Sunsari on Sunday morning has been identified as 65-year-old Lalji Prasad Gupta, an Indian national who had been running a battery shop in Biratnagar for around 30 years.

Gupta operated Lal Battery Shop on Mahabir Road in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-6, Morang. His body was discovered along the riverbank on the Bhimpur side of Barju Rural Municipality-2, Sunsari, near the bridge connecting the two districts.

Local residents alerted police after spotting the body inside a sack on Sunday morning. Police subsequently identified the deceased as Gupta.

Chandra Khadka, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sunsari, and a deputy superintendent of police, said Gupta had been operating a battery repair shop in Biratnagar-6.

Khadka said the circumstances suggested that the body might have been dumped after a killing. He described the case as suspicious because the body was found wrapped in a sack and said police were conducting a detailed investigation from multiple angles.

Police said a technical team and a trained sniffer dog had been deployed at the scene to collect evidence.
