Parsa, October 27, 2026 — Police have arrested a 51-year-old man in Parsa on allegations of collecting money by claiming to be an undercover operative for Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force Nepal and promising to help smuggled goods evade customs checks.
The suspect, Ashok Kumar Barnawal of Pokhariya Municipality-5, allegedly told people that he had close connections with security personnel and could arrange the passage of goods avoiding customs duties and other smuggling-related checks.
According to the District Police Office, Parsa, he allegedly threatened to have people arrested if they refused to pay him to facilitate the movement of such goods. Police said he also acted as an intermediary while collecting money.
Acting on information about the alleged activities, police arrested Barnawal from Pokhariya Municipality-5 on Kartik 6. He is being investigated after police obtained an extension of his detention in accordance with the law.
Police have also begun investigating allegations that Barnawal took money from various people by promising to secure them jobs in Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force Nepal.
