Birgunj, September 12, 2026 — Police have arrested an Indian national in Birgunj with Indian currency worth Rs 450,000 whose source could not be established during a routine inspection.
According to the District Police Office, Parsa, a police team deployed from Inarwa stopped a motorcycle travelling from India toward Birgunj for a regular check at Rajat Jayanti Chowk. During the inspection, officers found Indian banknotes hidden inside the motorcycle's storage compartment.
The arrested man has been identified as 55-year-old Ashok Kumar, a resident of Palanwa, Motihari district, Bihar, India.
Police recovered 891 Indian banknotes of Rs 500 denomination, one Rs 200 note and four Rs 100 notes. The total value of the recovered currency was Rs 450,000.
The motorcycle, bearing registration number BR06AT 6445, was also taken into police custody. Kumar has been detained along with the motorcycle for further investigation, police said.
