Four arrested for allegedly defrauding people by posing as Khalti employees

Bhaktapur, October 27, 2026 — Four people have been arrested on suspicion of defrauding people by impersonating employees of Khalti, a mobile wallet service, according to police.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Subham Kumar Jha, Aniket Kumar Yadav, Pawankumar Chaudhary and Rishi Ganga. A team from the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, arrested them, police said.

According to police, the suspects allegedly contacted people by phone and through WhatsApp audio and video calls, claiming to work for Khalti. They reportedly told potential victims that their know-your-customer (KYC) details needed updating or their wallets would be closed.

They also allegedly offered to link victims’ bank accounts to their wallets, provide e-speakers that announce payments received in business accounts and enable fund transfers without service charges.

Police said the suspects gained victims’ trust through these claims, persuaded them to share their phone screens and obtained their one-time password (OTP) codes. They allegedly used the information to gain unauthorised access to bank accounts and defraud the victims.
