Group attacks police post in Saptari while attempting to free man held with smuggled firecrackers

Saptari, October 25, 2026 — A group allegedly attempting to free a man arrested with smuggled firecrackers attacked Assistant Sub-Inspector Pradip Kumar Bista, the in-charge of a police post near the Nepal–India border in Ram Nagar Kodarkatti, Balan Bihul Rural Municipality-5, Saptari.

According to Saptari police, officers seized Ramdular Yadav of Bodebarsain Municipality-3 on Saturday evening while he was bringing firecrackers, classified as explosive materials, from India. The group allegedly attacked police while attempting to secure Yadav’s release.

Police recovered firecrackers worth approximately Rs 117,000 from Yadav, according to the authorities.

Superintendent of Police Rupak Khadka, chief of the District Police Office in Saptari, said Yadav had been held at the Area Police Office in Kadbona for further investigation.

Police are searching for Dev Kumar Yadav and other individuals suspected of involvement in the attack, Khadka said. He added that officers had been deployed to identify and arrest those involved and that no one implicated in the incident would be spared.

The same police post has previously faced an attack linked to smuggling. In Ashadh this year, the then-in-charge of the post, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Kumar Yadav, was allegedly beaten by a group suspected of involvement in smuggling.
