Dang, October 29, 2026 — A fire destroyed a cosmetic shop in Hapure Bazaar, Babai Rural Municipality-5, Dang, on Wednesday evening, with all goods inside the store reportedly burned after a fire engine failed to arrive.
The fire broke out at around 8 pm at Gauri Shringar Pasal, operated by local resident Khim Bahadur Somai. An electrical short circuit is suspected to have caused the blaze, although the cause has not been confirmed.
Local residents said the shop was completely destroyed because firefighters could not arrive even more than two hours after the fire started.
With no fire engine available at the scene, local residents, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel attempted to control the blaze by carrying water in buckets. A team led by Hom Bahadur Parajuli, chief of the Area Police Office in Tulsipur, was also deployed. However, their efforts could not contain the large fire.
The incident has renewed concerns about fire response capacity in western Dang. According to local residents, none of the four local governments in the area, including Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, currently has an operational fire engine.
Tulsipur’s previous fire engine was set on fire during the Gen Z protest on September 9, 2025, corresponding to Bhadra 24, 2082, in the Nepali calendar. The municipality has not yet purchased a replacement.
