Makwanpur, October 29, 2026 — The Makwanpur office of Salt Trading Corporation Limited has sold subsidized food items worth more than Rs 800,000 under a festival-focused discount programme introduced ahead of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
Office chief Madhusudan Adhikari said the office had been selling salt, sugar, cooking oil and flour at discounted prices from September 17, following a government directive. Sales had exceeded Rs 800,000 by the Dashain holiday period, he said.
To ensure that the discount benefits were distributed fairly, the office set per-person limits of six packets of salt, six kilograms of sugar, five litres of oil and five kilograms of flour.
According to Adhikari, the discounts compared with prevailing market prices were Rs 5 per kilogram for sugar, Rs 2 per kilogram for salt, Rs 7 per kilogram for flour and Rs 7 per litre for oil.
The office reported sales of 60 sacks of sugar, each weighing 50 kilograms, 10 quintals of salt, seven quintals of flour and 500 litres of oil during the period.
Adhikari said the subsidized sales programme would continue until the end of November. Salt Trading Corporation launched the festival-focused outlets on September 17 to provide discounted goods during Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
Driving licence written and practical tests in Chitwan have been suspended since July 26 following a Supreme Court order, affecting around 2,000 regular applicants and 800 retest candidates.
