Police fire eight rounds, injure two and arrest three in anti-drug operation in Morang

Morang, October 30, 2026 — Police fired eight rounds while attempting to detain suspected drug traffickers in Ratuwamai Municipality, Morang, injuring two Indian nationals and arresting three people with a pistol and approximately 500 grams of brown heroin.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Makendra Kumar Mishra, spokesperson for the Morang District Police Office, the two injured men are 22-year-old Deepak Kumar Bosak of Kushaha and 40-year-old Puran Bosak of Kutumgunj, both in Araria district of India. They are receiving treatment at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar.

The third person arrested has been identified as 35-year-old Pramod Thakur of Chunimari, Ward 1 of Ratuwamai Municipality, Morang.

A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau had been deployed following specific information about drug transportation in the area. At around 9:30 p.m., police attempted to stop three people travelling on two motorcycles in Shanishchare, Ward 6 of Ratuwamai Municipality. One motorcycle bore the Indian registration number BR 37 V 3926, while the registration number of the other was not identified.

Police said the three attempted to flee, prompting officers to fire eight rounds. Mishra said five rounds were fired from a Chinese pistol and three from a Beretta pistol.

The bullets struck the two Indian nationals below their knees.
