Kathmandu, October 30, 2026 — Police have arrested a 28-year-old man accused of conducting cryptocurrency transactions worth more than Rs 2.16 billion.
The arrested man has been identified as Sunil Kumar Yadav, a resident of Ward 12 of Sabaila Municipality in Dhanusha.
Police said they arrested Yadav based on information that large-scale cryptocurrency transactions were being conducted illegally through electronic channels and online betting applications, including activities involving placing and facilitating bets.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku arrested him in coordination with the District Police Office in Dhanusha.
According to the preliminary investigation, Yadav had carried out cryptocurrency transactions worth Rs 2,160,120,821 so far.
Police have obtained permission from the Kathmandu District Court to extend his detention for investigation under the offence of using virtual currency. Further investigation into the case is underway.
A fire broke out at Hotel Goodluck in Dingboche, Solukhumbu. Police said preliminary information suggested a gas-related incident, with no human casualties reported.
