Nepalgunj, September 23, 2026 — Police have arrested a 24-year-old Indian national with 103.79 grams of brown heroin in Nepalgunj after opening fire when he allegedly failed to stop his motorcycle during a drug surveillance operation.
The suspect has been identified as Nadim Rai, a resident of Chakia Road in Rupaidha, Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, India.
According to police, a team from the Narcotics Control Bureau's Nepalgunj branch was monitoring a group suspected of collecting brown heroin from Bahraich and supplying it in districts of Lumbini and Karnali provinces. During the operation, police attempted to stop Rai as he was entering Nepal from India on a motorcycle in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-14.
Police said Rai did not stop despite warnings, prompting officers to fire two rounds into the air. He was subsequently taken into custody along with the motorcycle.
A search following his arrest reportedly recovered 103 grams and 790 milligrams of brown heroin from his possession. Police also seized an Indian-registered motorcycle bearing number plate UP40J0657 and a mobile phone.
