Banke, November 1, 2026 — Eight workers were injured in a fire at Ambe Steel rebar factory in Bakaspur, Ward 5 of Janaki Rural Municipality, on Sunday morning.
The fire broke out at around 5:40 am after an electrical short circuit occurred in three furnaces used to melt iron inside the factory. Each furnace has a capacity of 25 tonnes.
The injured include five people from Banke and three from Bahraich district in India. All eight were initially taken to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj for treatment.
The injured from Banke are Shiv Prasad Chamar, 28; Ramdin Harijan, 22; Prem Dhobi, 24; Dilip Kumar Yadav, 29; and Laxmi Ram Yadav, 35. Chamar and Harijan were reported to be in moderate condition, while the other three were in normal condition.
The three injured from Bahraich are Raj Kumar Nishad, 29; Nashib Kumar Nishad, 24; and Binod Kumar Nishad, 25. All three were reported to be in normal condition.
At 8:45 am, Chamar and Harijan were referred to Lucknow, India, for further treatment.
A 20-year-old man from Kanchanpur was found dead near Triveni Patan in Badimalika after heavy snowfall. Another stranded man was rescued by helicopter on Saturday.

Following the fire report, a five-member police team led by Senior Police Assistant Inspector Ludra Bahadur K.C. was deployed to the site from the Khajura Khurd Area Police Office.
With the assistance of two fire engines from Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, one from Kohalpur Municipality, Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and local residents, the fire was completely brought under control at 8:15 am.
Further details of the damage caused by the fire have yet to be established.
