Gorkha, November 1, 2026 — Home Minister Sudan Gurung has pledged to take initiatives to address problems in Gorkha and support the district’s development during an interaction with local intellectuals, industrialists and businesspeople.
After listening to participants’ complaints and suggestions, Gurung said he had been in government for only six months but would take necessary steps to address public concerns and advance development in the district.
Recalling that Gorkha had helped him become home minister, he said he would take the concerns and expectations of the district’s residents seriously.
During the interaction, participants raised issues related to local development projects, agricultural marketing, tourism promotion and challenges facing industries and businesses.
They complained that Gorkha remained behind in infrastructure development and that the government had not given sufficient attention to promoting the district’s tourism potential despite its opportunities. They called for infrastructure construction to be prioritized to accelerate overall development.
Participants also highlighted difficulties faced by farmers due to inadequate markets and prices for their agricultural products. They said the government had not played an effective role in agricultural production and marketing, and stressed that vegetables produced by Nepali farmers should receive priority in the domestic market.
Eighteen flood-damaged suspension bridges along the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli corridor have reopened after repairs costing around Rs 55 million, the Suspension Bridge Division Office said.
