Uttar Pradesh, India, September 3, 2026 — Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of raping a three-month-old girl in a village in India's Uttar Pradesh state.
The suspect, identified by police as Jetendra, was arrested on Wednesday following raids at locations where he was believed to be hiding.
According to police, the incident occurred late Tuesday evening while the infant was lying on a cot inside her family home. Her mother was preparing dinner while her father was occupied with household work.
Bewar Police Station in-charge Anil Kumar Singh said the suspect was a neighbour known to the family. He allegedly entered the house and began playing with the infant before carrying her outside.
Because the man was known to the family, they initially did not suspect anything was wrong, police said.
