California, USA, September 5, 2026 — Nvidia has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence platform Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, marking one of the chipmaker's biggest acquisitions as it expands its presence across the broader AI ecosystem.
Nvidia announced the agreement on September 3, saying the deal would help scale Hugging Face's platform, strengthen its infrastructure and expand access to artificial intelligence tools for developers and institutions worldwide. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
The transaction includes an estimated $11.9 billion purchase price for Hugging Face shareholders, subject to certain adjustments, along with an equity-based employee retention programme of up to approximately $1 billion for Hugging Face employees joining Nvidia.
Founded in 2016, Hugging Face has become one of the world's most widely used platforms for developing, sharing and deploying open-source and open-weight AI models. More than 18 million developers, researchers and creators use the platform, which hosts over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications, according to Nvidia. More than 200,000 companies also use Hugging Face to discover, evaluate, customise and deploy AI systems.
Hugging Face to remain an open platform
Nvidia has pledged that Hugging Face will continue operating as an open platform for the wider AI ecosystem, despite the acquisition.
