Kathmandu, October 16, 2026 — Newly elected Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has said he plans to travel across the country to engage with party leaders, cadres and citizens, while leaving the party’s routine administrative responsibilities to senior vice-president and general secretaries.
Speaking at a programme organized by the Nepal Professionals Campaign Council in Kathmandu on Friday, Thapa said the party needed to change its organizational structure, working methods and approach to addressing contemporary challenges.
He said the party should draw inspiration from the contributions of previous leaders while taking responsibility for finding solutions to the problems facing today’s society.
Thapa outlined the concept of prosperity as a way to address Nepal’s current needs. He said challenges involving employment, foreign migration, economic development, good governance, social discrimination and environmental protection must be addressed alongside the protection of democracy and citizens’ rights.
Arguing that social media alone could not resolve public problems, Thapa stressed the importance of discussions, debates and reflection. He said his primary objective was to establish the Nepali Congress as a party capable of addressing citizens’ aspirations and contemporary concerns.
