Complaint filed against Nepali Congress central member Sushil Bhatt over age eligibility

Kathmandu, October 29, 2026 — A complaint has been lodged with the election committee of the Nepali Congress alleging that central member Sushil Bhatt was over the age limit when he was elected to the party’s under-35 category at its 15th general convention.

Saugat Thapa, who also contested from the same category, filed the complaint, claiming that Bhatt had already crossed the age of 35 at the time of his election.

The complaint calls for an investigation into the ages of all candidates who contested and won under the under-35 youth general convention representative category. It asks the committee to verify their ages using official citizenship records and other authenticated documents.

It also states that eligibility should be determined based on each candidate’s age on the date of nomination registration, to establish whether they met the age requirement set out in the party statute.

The election committee has not yet made a decision on the complaint.

The swearing-in ceremony for the Nepali Congress’s elected office-bearers and central committee members is scheduled for tomorrow.
