Babarmahal overhead pedestrian bridge expected to open this week

Kathmandu, October 26, 2026 — A newly constructed overhead pedestrian bridge in Babarmahal is expected to open to the public within this week, with the final stage of construction currently underway, according to the Road Division Office, Kathmandu.

The bridge is intended to make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road in the busy Babarmahal area, where heavy pedestrian movement and traffic congestion have created a need for safer crossings. Officials expect the facility to improve pedestrian safety and help reduce road accidents.

Construction began following an agreement signed on February 21, 2026. Hitech Engineering Works Pvt. Ltd., based in Hetauda, was awarded the construction contract.

According to the Road Division Office, the project has a total cost of Rs 25.24 million. The office said the bridge would be opened for pedestrian use once the remaining construction work is completed.
