Kathmandu, August 28, 2026 — The Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund has received more than Rs 1.91 billion in contributions within 36 hours as individuals and organizations stepped up support for relief efforts following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Rs 1.918 billion was deposited into the fund between noon on Wednesday and midnight on Thursday. The contributions were deposited through accounts maintained at 10 commercial banks.
The sharp increase in donations followed the massive flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday morning, causing extensive loss of life and property. The government subsequently held a Cabinet meeting and declared the affected areas disaster zones.
Following the declaration, individuals, businesses and organizations began contributing to the government’s relief fund.
The Ministry of Finance has been designated as the focal ministry for receiving contributions to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and coordinating the collection process.
