Kathmandu, August 25, 2026 — Prime Minister Balendra Shah has submitted a medical report to the Federal Parliament Secretariat seeking permission to wear dark sunglasses during Wednesday’s direct question-and-answer session in the House of Representatives.
The move follows a ruling by Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal requiring lawmakers and ministers who wish to wear tinted glasses inside the parliamentary chamber to provide valid medical documentation.
According to a medical report issued by the Military Hospital in Chhauni, doctors examined Shah and diagnosed him with light sensitivity and dry eyes. The report recommends regular use of eye drops and protective dark glasses.
The medical documentation is expected to allow Shah to attend the parliamentary session while wearing the glasses.
Shah is scheduled to face direct questions from lawmakers during Wednesday’s session under Rule 56 of the House of Representatives Regulations. A total of 11 lawmakers are set to question the prime minister during the live-broadcasted question-and-answer session.
