Chitwan, August 27, 2026 — Police have arrested two people in Chitwan for allegedly removing jewellery from the body of a person swept downstream by the Narayani River following the devastating floods in Rasuwa.
The District Police Office, Chitwan, said the two were taken into custody on Thursday after a video showing people allegedly removing jewellery from a body found along the riverbank circulated widely on social media.
Those arrested have been identified as 25-year-old Madan Gurung, originally from Binayi-Triveni Rural Municipality-1 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) and currently staying with his maternal relatives in Lilachowk, Bharatpur, and 38-year-old Umesh Chaudhary, originally from Chandbela Municipality-5 of Sunsari and currently residing in Supari Tole, Pokhara Bus Park, Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
The body had been found lodged along the Narayani River bank after being swept downstream by the massive Bhote Koshi flood that struck Rasuwa on Wednesday and caused extensive loss of life and property.
Police said they began investigating after the video surfaced on social media. Based on the footage and subsequent investigation, the two suspects were identified and arrested.
