Nuwakot, August 28, 2026 — A survivor of the devastating Bhotekoshi flood has said several people in Dhunge Bazaar, Nuwakot, ignored advance warnings to move to safety and instead went towards the Trishuli bridge to watch and record the rising floodwaters, with some later being swept away.
Dipesh Dangol, a local resident who survived the disaster and reached Bidur, said authorities had warned residents about the approaching flood around 20 minutes before it struck. People in vulnerable areas had been advised to move to safer locations.
However, Dangol said many people closed their shops and headed towards the Trishuli bridge to watch the flood and record selfies and videos.
“Even after being warned that the flood was coming, many went to the bridge to take selfies. They said they would make videos and get more views,” Dangol said.
According to Dangol, some of those who knowingly entered the dangerous area were swept away as the flood intensified. He said more lives might have been saved if people had immediately followed the evacuation warning.
