Rasuwa, August 26, 2026 — At least seven people have been confirmed dead after a massive flash flood swept through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa early Wednesday, causing widespread destruction to settlements and infrastructure along the river.
At least 25 people had been rescued by Wednesday afternoon, according to the Nepali Army spokesperson.
The Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been mobilised for search-and-rescue operations, with 14 helicopters deployed to assist the response.
Market areas and security posts are among the sites that have suffered major damage. Nine Armed Police Force personnel stationed at Timure, near the Nepal-China border, have also been reported missing.
The cause of the sudden flooding has not yet been officially established. Officials at the Flood Forecasting Division said they had received informal information suggesting that a landslide may have temporarily blocked a river in Tibet before the accumulated water suddenly broke through.
