Kathmandu, August 30, 2026 — Satellite internet provider Starlink has offered to deploy communication kits and provide free internet service to support disaster response efforts following the devastating floods in Nepal and the Tibet border region.
In a statement posted on X, the company expressed solidarity with communities affected by the disaster and said it was waiting for approval from local authorities before deploying its equipment.
“Starlink is ready to deploy kits and provide free service to support the Government of Nepal and humanitarian partners as soon as we are allowed,” the company said.
The floods have severely damaged roads, bridges and telecommunications infrastructure across affected areas, creating major challenges for search-and-rescue and relief operations.
Starlink said its portable satellite internet kits can establish high-speed, low-latency connectivity within minutes when provided with a power source and an unobstructed view of the sky. Such connectivity could help emergency teams maintain communications in areas where conventional mobile and internet networks have been disrupted.
