Kathmandu, November 4, 2026 — The Supreme Court has begun hearing a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of businessman Deepak Bhatt, who is currently in custody in a money laundering case.
The petition is being heard by a joint bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Nityananda Pandey.
Bhatt’s father, Chaturbhuj Bhatt, had filed the petition. It was previously listed before a joint bench of Justices Subedi and Shanti Singh Thapa on Kartik 13 but was not taken up due to a lack of time.
The Special Court had ordered Deepak Bhatt to be remanded in custody for trial on Asar 3 in connection with a money laundering case. The same order was issued against Sulav Agrawal, who was also implicated in the case.
The decision was made by a bench comprising Special Court Chairperson Sudarshan Dev Bhatt and members Umesh Koirala and Bidur Koirala.
On Asoj 7, a habeas corpus petition was registered at the Supreme Court, challenging the detention of the two individuals as unlawful.
The Deuba faction began ward conventions on October 1 for its separate 15th General Convention, with municipality and provincial conventions scheduled before its central convention in December.
