Bara, September 11, 2026 — The Bara District Court has ordered the release of Progesh Chaudhary, the main accused in the case involving the alleged abduction, rape and murder of a three-year-old girl, on Rs 20,000 bail. Nine other defendants have been ordered to remain free on ordinary court dates as the case proceeds.
Judge Prakash Kumar Adhikari issued the order through a single bench. Chaudhary must deposit Rs 20,000 in cash or provide an equivalent guarantee under the provisions cited by the court.
In reaching its decision on Chaudhary, the court considered his statement denying involvement in the alleged crime as well as his admission that he had gone to the house where the incident was allegedly committed to switch on an electric light. The court said the evidence available at this stage did not allow his possible involvement to be ruled out.
The court also considered evidence concerning the recovery of the girl's body from an empty house belonging to Bir Bahadur Rokka. Statements obtained during the investigation, including those from Tika Kumari Shahi, Nirmala Neupane, Hira Kumari Mishra and Furpa Gole, were among the materials taken into account.
The court relied on Section 18 of the Evidence Act, 2031, and Sections 68 and 72 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 2074, in ordering Chaudhary to provide the bail amount or equivalent security.
