Kathmandu, October 1, 2026 — The Sher Bahadur Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress is holding ward-level conventions today as part of its separate preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention.
The faction has scheduled its central general convention for December 7 to 9 and has already informed the Election Commission of its convention schedule. Its timeline includes municipality-level conventions on October 6 and provincial-level conventions on November 19.
Election officers have been deployed across all 77 districts, while election coordinators are stationed in 56 districts for today’s ward-level voting.
The Deuba faction began implementing its own convention schedule after the establishment faction moved ahead with its convention preparations, despite the faction’s earlier call to halt the general convention process amid a legitimacy dispute pending before the Supreme Court.
Shashank Koirala, coordinator of the faction’s convention organizing committee, urged party members to participate actively in the ward conventions and said their participation would help strengthen the organization.
