Kathmandu, September 7, 2026 — President Ram Chandra Paudel has called on political parties, government agencies and citizens to unite in relief, rescue and reconstruction efforts following the catastrophic Bhote Koshi floods, while urging the international community to deliver climate justice to vulnerable Himalayan countries such as Nepal.
Addressing the nation amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis, President Paudel paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the August 26 disaster and extended condolences to bereaved families. He also expressed hope for the recovery of the injured and the successful rescue of people who remain missing.
The President described the disaster as a devastating natural catastrophe triggered by an avalanche carrying glacial ice and rocks, which caused widespread loss of life and destruction of homes, livelihoods, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure, including hydropower projects.
Paudel praised the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, health workers, local representatives, civil servants, volunteers and other individuals and organizations involved in search, rescue and relief operations.
He said the courage and dedication of personnel working in dangerous areas represented the country's humanitarian values and spirit of service. However, he stressed that difficult terrain, damaged infrastructure and unstable conditions must not become reasons for abandoning or suspending efforts to find missing people.
