Kathmandu, September 7, 2026 — Nepal observed a national day of mourning on Monday in memory of those who lost their lives and suffered extensive personal and property losses in the devastating Bhote Koshi River floods in Rasuwa.
The government declared September 7 a national day of mourning following a Cabinet decision on September 3. The day marks the 13th day since the disaster struck on August 26.
As part of the observance, the national flag was flown at half-mast at government offices across the country. Nepal’s embassies and diplomatic missions abroad also lowered the national flag to honor the victims.
According to the latest disaster figures, 1,355 bodies have been recovered from those killed in the floods, while 4,996 people remain missing. Of the recovered bodies, only 98 have been identified so far.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said 13,396 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas to date.
