Kathmandu, September 15, 2026 — Birbal Tamang, chairman of Kispang Rural Municipality in Nuwakot, was arrested in Kathmandu on Monday in connection with a banking offense case.
Tamang had come to Kathmandu to discuss issues faced by flood-affected communities with Prime Minister Balen Shah. He attended a meeting at Singha Durbar from 11 am to around 2:30 pm.
According to Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa, a team from the Durbar Marg Police Circle took Tamang into custody after he left Singha Durbar following the meeting.
Thapa said a banking offense case had apparently already been registered against Tamang at a court. Police located him at Hanumanthan, outside Singha Durbar, and arrested him with the intention of presenting him before the court.
“An apparent banking offense case had been filed against him in court. He was found at Hanumanthan outside Singha Durbar and taken into custody for the purpose of producing him before the court,” Thapa said.
