Kathmandu, October 3, 2026 — Police have arrested two people in Kathmandu on suspicion of selling and distributing expired food products after replacing their original dates with new ones and applying fake labels.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 40-year-old Bijendra Sah of Prasauani Rural Municipality–1, Bara, currently living in Tinthana, Kathmandu, and 49-year-old Akhiles Prasad Kalwar of Bindabasini Rural Municipality–2, Parsa, also currently living in Tinthana.
A joint team from the District Police Range Kathmandu and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control took the two into custody during an on-site inspection at Siddhivinayak Food Store in Tinthana, Chandragiri Municipality–15.
According to police, the two were found relabeling expired food products by replacing their dates with new ones during the inspection.
Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, said further investigation into the case is underway.
