Monsoon response command post steps up monitoring of Bay of Bengal weather system

Kathmandu, September 21, 2026 — The Monsoon Response Command Post held a meeting on Sunday to discuss a weather system that has developed over the Bay of Bengal and its potential impact on Nepal.

The meeting was held at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The meeting discussed the possibility of rainfall in Nepal due to a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal and its potential impacts.

According to the authority, senior officials from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology briefed the meeting on the possibility of rainfall associated with the system.

The meeting decided to continuously monitor the weather system and alert all concerned agencies to make necessary preparations accordingly.

The meeting also decided to request the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to construct suspension bridges at various locations to restore connectivity in areas declared disaster crisis zones following the Bhotekoshi flood.

It called for the construction process to be advanced as soon as possible, with support from organizations willing to provide available resources for the suspension bridges.
