Nuwakot, September 15, 2026 — The government has begun repairing and reconstructing suspension bridges damaged by the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Bhadra 10, with the aim of restoring connectivity between communities along the Trishuli River.
The flood damaged suspension bridges at several locations in Nuwakot and Dhading, disrupting the daily movement of residents between the two banks of the river. The damage has affected access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services, while residents in some areas have been forced to use longer alternative routes.
Repair work has already started at several locations, including Keureni Bazaar and Tarukaghat in Nuwakot. With the bridges out of service, local residents have faced difficulties reaching markets to purchase daily necessities and transporting agricultural produce.
The government has said repair and reconstruction of flood-damaged suspension bridges are being carried out on a priority basis. According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, a preliminary assessment found that 53 of the 64 suspension bridges between Muglin and Timure had sustained damage from the flood.
A field assessment conducted by government officials determined that 20 of the damaged bridges required repair, while the remaining 33 needed to be reconstructed.
