Nepali Congress to contribute Rs 10 million to Bhotekoshi flood relief fund

Kathmandu, August 30, 2026 — The Nepali Congress has decided to contribute Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to support survivors of the devastating Bhotekoshi floods of August 26.

Party spokesperson Devraj Chalise confirmed the decision, saying the contribution would be made to the government’s relief fund.

The decision was taken during a party meeting held to assess the Nepali Congress’s role in post-disaster rescue, relief and recovery efforts.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa said the government should be supported in managing the disaster while its shortcomings, if any, should also be identified and addressed.

Thapa said the government should give due attention to the nine-point memorandum submitted by the party and emphasized that the federal government must fulfill its specific responsibilities in disaster management.

He stressed that effective disaster response would require coordination among the federal, provincial and local governments. According to Thapa, the federal government should clearly divide responsibilities among the three levels of government to ensure an effective response.

Similarly, Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdambe called for stronger coordination and collaboration in search and rescue, relief distribution and rehabilitation efforts.

He said the government must effectively coordinate the response and fulfill its responsibilities toward citizens affected by the disaster.
