Nepal Police reports 1,058 bodies recovered and 4,606 people missing in Bhote Koshi flood

Rasuwa, September 1, 2026 — Nepal Police has reported that 1,058 bodies have been recovered and 4,606 people remain missing following the devastating Bhote Koshi River flood in Rasuwa, as search, rescue, body management and relief operations continue.

According to the Nepal Police's Rasuwa Bhote Koshi Flood Search, Rescue and Relief Update issued at 2 p.m. on September 1, a total of 7,912 police personnel have been mobilized for the disaster response.

Of the personnel deployed, 65 have been affected by the disaster, while 25 remain out of contact, according to the police update.

The police have recorded 4,530 people as injured or rescued. The figure includes 3,214 men, 1,302 women and 14 people whose gender was not specified, as well as 580 foreign nationals.

Of the 4,606 people reported missing, 2,683 are Nepali citizens. The missing Nepali citizens include 2,315 men and 368 women, according to the police.

Police said 1,340 missing-person cases involving Nepali citizens were reported through telephone calls.

Meanwhile, 583 foreign nationals remain missing. They include 251 men, 330 women and two people categorized under other classifications.

A total of 3,453 people are currently staying in holding centers established in different locations. The largest number, 2,466 people, are being accommodated in Nuwakot, followed by 398 in Rasuwa, 329 in Kathmandu and 260 in Dhading.

Nepal Police said details of 869 unidentified people have been uploaded to its website to assist with identification and the exchange of information.

The police are continuing search and rescue operations, collecting missing-person information, managing recovered bodies and providing assistance to people affected by the disaster.
