Chinese national rescued alive from Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower tunnel

A woman has been rescued alive from a house buried by flood debris in Betrawati, Nuwakot. According to Armed Police Force spokesperson Netra Bahadur Karki, the woman was rescued from the home of Ananda Shrestha. The rescue comes as search and rescue operations continue in areas affected by the devastating floods that struck the region. Earlier, the Nepali Army had rescued a Chinese national from the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project. Two other people were also rescued alive on Thursday from a tunnel at the Trishuli 3 ‘A’ Hydropower Project.

China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has provided emergency relief supplies, including equipment needed to construct two Bailey bridges, to support Nepal’s rescue, relief and recovery efforts following devastating floods and landslides. The relief materials were officially handed over to Nepal at Rizi Port in Shigatse on Friday as Nepal continued efforts to restore transport links to areas cut off by the disaster. The shipment includes Bailey bridge panels, reinforced suspension rods, support frames, bridge decking and I-beams. According to the information provided during the handover, the materials are sufficient to assemble two bridges.

A massive landslide blocked the Chameliya River for about half an hour in Bhattar of Api Himal Rural Municipality-1, Darchula, on Friday afternoon, triggering fear among local residents and raising concerns that the river could be blocked again as landslide activity continues. According to Api Himal Rural Municipality Chairperson Bhagat Singh Thekare Bohara, small landslides had been occurring in the area since Friday morning. A much larger landslide struck at around 1 p.m., completely blocking the Chameliya River downstream of Bhattar for approximately 30 minutes.
