Nuwakot, October 15, 2026 — The Nepal Red Cross Society, in collaboration with Bidur Municipality, has launched a relief and recovery programme for families affected by recent floods in the Bhotekoshi area, with immediate financial assistance of Rs 100,000 per affected family.
The initiative was announced by Jagan Chapagain, general secretary and CEO of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), during his visit to flood-affected areas.
An agreement between the Red Cross and the municipality covers immediate humanitarian assistance as well as longer-term recovery, rehabilitation and disaster resilience. The areas of cooperation include healthcare, water and sanitation, housing and economic recovery.
Under the programme, the Red Cross plans to support 1,000 families in restoring their livelihoods and cover rent for 2,000 households until permanent housing solutions are available. It will also directly manage assistance for 600 households.
The organisation will repair a 7.5-kilometre pipeline belonging to the Bidur water supply project, a move expected to benefit approximately 30,000 people. The programme will also focus on restoring health and educational infrastructure affected by the disaster.
