Kathmandu, August 14, 2026 — Khagraj Bhatta, a leader of the Nepali Communist Party, has been appointed Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province with the support of CPN (UML).
Reacting to his appointment, Bhatta said the opportunity to lead the 2.7 million people of Sudurpashchim has brought a greater sense of responsibility and challenge than happiness.
“More than happiness, I feel burdened by responsibility and a bit more by challenges,” Bhatta said. “I will work by keeping the sentiment of 27 lakh people at the centre, with the trust of the entire house.”
He added that while many miracles may not be possible, the work carried out under his leadership would be done well. “Whatever I do, I will do it well and make people feel that it is done well,” Bhatta said.
Bhatta is scheduled to take the oath of office this afternoon. After the swearing-in, he is expected to expand the new cabinet.
