Kathmandu, August 14, 2026 — The Supreme Court has ordered that journalist Kishore Shrestha be presented before it on August 17 along with items seized from the office of Janasthaa newspaper.
A single bench of Justice Balkrishna Dhakal issued the order while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Shrestha’s wife, Saraswati Shrestha. The court directed that Shrestha be produced along with the laptop, computer and mobile phone seized by police from the Janasthaa office.
Police had arrested Shrestha from his residence in Lalitpur on Wednesday night. He is currently in custody on charges of violating personal privacy.
This is the second instance in which the Supreme Court has ordered the production of a detainee together with seized items. Previously, on August 17, 2014, the court had issued a similar order regarding items seized by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority from the law firm of senior advocate Shambhu Thapa.
Advocates Tikaram Bhattarai and Ramesh Badal appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
