Kathmandu, August 13, 2026 — Former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba returned to Nepal on Thursday after spending nearly five months overseas, arriving in Kathmandu via Hong Kong.
Deuba landed at Tribhuvan International Airport around 12:30 pm. He is expected to head directly to his rented residence in Maharajgunj. His personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, confirmed that he would stay at the same residence he had rented before leaving the country.
Deuba departed Nepal for Singapore on February 25, stating that the trip was for a medical check-up. He has remained outside the country for almost five months since then. Details surrounding the length of his stay and the nature of his treatment have remained unclear.
Deuba flew directly from Kathmandu to Singapore. His wife, former foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba, travelled to Singapore via New Delhi. It is not known when Deuba, Rana and their son Jaybir left Singapore for Hong Kong. Deuba then continued on to Nepal, while the current whereabouts of Rana and Jaybir have not been made public.
The family has stated that the trip was for medical treatment but has not disclosed the location of the treatment or the specific health issues involved. Questions also persist regarding the cost of the nearly five-month stay abroad and who covered the medical and other expenses.
