NOC to sell LPG cylinders at five Kathmandu locations amid supply crunch

Kathmandu, August 15, 2026 — The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is selling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at five designated locations in Kathmandu on Saturday as consumers continue to face difficulties obtaining cooking gas.

The special sale is being conducted in coordination with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, to provide cylinders to consumers facing an immediate shortage. The move comes amid a recent surge in demand and distribution difficulties in the LPG market, although authorities and industry representatives have maintained that imports and overall supply are continuing.

The five sales locations are the NOC premises in Teku, the Transport Management Office premises in Chabahil, Radha Swami Satsang Bhawan in Kirtipur, Radha Swami Satsang Bhawan in Basundhara, and the premises of the former District Administration Office in Babarmahal.

According to the NOC, consumers can obtain cylinders from several brands, including Nepal Gas, HP Gas, Everest/Sugam Gas, Shree Ram Gas, Sagar Gas, Siddhartha Gas, Himal Gas, AP Gas, Shree Maya Gas, Shree Krishna Gas, Saibaba Gas, Om Gas, Bhanu Gas, STC Gas, Lokpriya Gas and Surya Gas.

The sales points will operate from 10 am to 6 pm. Consumers seeking a cylinder must bring either their citizenship certificate or National Identity Card.

The NOC has urged consumers who are not facing an immediate shortage not to purchase cylinders from the designated locations, saying the special distribution is intended for people who urgently need cooking gas.

The latest intervention comes after consumers across Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal reported difficulties finding LPG cylinders. The shortage has been linked to a sharp increase in demand after the market returned to the distribution of full 14.2-kilogram cylinders following months in which half-filled cylinders were being supplied.

The NOC has said LPG imports are continuing regularly and that gas industries are supplying filled cylinders through their dealer networks. Industry representatives have likewise said imports from India have been increasing and urged consumers against unnecessary stockpiling.
