Gorkha, August 17, 2026 — Home Minister Sudan Gurung’s remark telling local residents to “take back their votes” has gone viral on social media after he made the comment during an interaction with voters in Gorkha.
Gurung made the remark on Sunday evening while listening to complaints and concerns from residents of Namjung in Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-9.
During the interaction, locals questioned Gurung about a laboratory he had promised to establish in the ward before the election. They complained that the programme had not been included in the government budget and sought clarification over why the commitment had not been implemented.
Responding to the concerns, Gurung said the government had only recently presented its first budget and had asked local authorities to provide lists of priority programmes that should be included.
He said the proposed laboratory fell under the responsibility of the ward and added that he had instructed officials to include it among the ward's planned programmes.
