Nepal flood death toll reaches 734, with 2,498 people still missing

Kathmandu, August 30, 2026 — The death toll from the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi region of Rasuwa has reached 734, while 2,498 people remain missing, according to the latest situation update released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

NDRRMA said 734 bodies and human remains have so far been recovered from several districts affected by the floods and subsequent downstream devastation.

The highest number of recovered bodies was recorded in Chitwan, where 259 bodies have been recovered. Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has recorded 184, followed by Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) with 82, Gorkha with 58, Nuwakot with 52, Dhading with 50, Tanahun with 36 and Rasuwa with 13.

Meanwhile, 242 people injured in the disaster are receiving treatment or have already been discharged from healthcare facilities.

Search operations are continuing for 2,498 people reported missing. The missing include 933 personnel associated with hydropower projects, 589 foreign nationals and 127 Nepali nationals travelling with foreign tourists.

The list also includes 562 residents of Rasuwa, 115 from Nuwakot, 65 from Makwanpur and three people in Langtang National Park, along with government employees and security personnel whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Security agencies have mobilized 19,895 personnel for search, rescue and relief operations. According to NDRRMA, the Nepali Army has rescued 2,974 people, Nepal Police 2,699 and the Armed Police Force 2,513, bringing the total number of people rescued by security forces to 8,186.

Helicopters have also been used extensively in the rescue effort. A total of 279 workers have been airlifted from hydropower project tunnels, while 227 foreign nationals have been evacuated by air from affected areas.

Relief operations are continuing across the affected districts. NDRRMA said 37 trucks and seven helicopter flights have been used to transport food and non-food relief supplies, while specialized surgical medical teams have been deployed to areas requiring emergency healthcare.
